Vintage set of four brown leather Soriana lounge chairs designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Cassina. Original Cassina labels affixed to the underside of each chair.
The Soriana chair, designed by Italian architects Afra and Tobia Scarpa in 1969 for the furniture manufacturer Cassina, is a celebrated icon of mid-century modern design that emphasizes comfort through its voluptuous, curvaceous forms and generous padding. Originally unveiled at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, it quickly gained acclaim and won the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award in 1970 for its innovative approach to seating. The chair's distinctive structure features an external chrome-plated metal frame that acts like a clamp, holding the plush cushions in place and creating a sense of contained volume, which was a departure from more rigid designs of the era.
